Peterborough-Area Skiers to Cross-Country Ski for 24 Hours to Raise Funds for Mental Health

Peterborough area skiers will be cross-country skiing over a 24-hour period from February 26th to 27th to raise funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge’s (CMHA HKPR’s) Mobile Mental Health and Addictions Clinic.

This event is supported by Wild Rock Outfitters and Kawartha Nordic Ski Club. The concept for the fundraiser originates with Wild Rock staff member and Kawartha Nordic Board of Directors member John Hauser. “I lost a cousin to suicide during the pandemic, I’ve also personally felt the toll of the pandemic on my own mental health, as I believe many others have,” says Hauser. “After speaking with Jeff Cadence and Jack Veitch at CMHA HKPR about the Mobile Mental Health and Addictions Clinic, I felt this was a project I would like to get behind.”

The Mobile Mental Health and Addictions Clinic will provide specialized mental health and addictions care to individuals in rural and remote areas within Peterborough and County, Northumberland, Haliburton, and Kawartha Lakes.

The goal is to raise $5,000 for the Mobile Mental Health and Addictions Clinic. They are well on their way but still need the community’s support. You can support this event by donating to the Mobile Mental Health and Addictions Clinic through the 24-Hour Ski Marathon for Mental Health fund here:  https://cmhahkpr.ca/get-involved/donate/

Hauser will be posting photos and commentary during the event and is encouraging everyone to follow the marathon online at: https://www.instagram.com/24forcmhahkpr/

Donations will still be accepted after the event. For all the details visit: https://wildrock.net/blogs/the-journal/24-hour-ski-marathon-for-mental-health
